Our Sporting Lunches
The 500 Supporters' Group's sole focus is to raise funds to assist specific projects being undertaken by the Christian Brothers to improve the standard of health and education within some of the most impoverished regions of Africa.
In order to raise awareness for this wonderful work being done by the Brothers in Africa, The 500 Supporters' Group organises TWO SPORTING LUNCHES each year:
- an AFL Lunch, which is held in May
- a Spring Racing Lunch, which is held on the Tuesday before the Melbourne Cup
Our lunches are held from Noon-2:00 p.m. in the Olympic Room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ("MCG"), which is one of the world's most famous sporting arenas and located within walking distance of the central business district in Melbourne.
The view of the arena from this fine dining room is truly spectacular, and catering is by Epicure.
Additionally, we are indebted to the extreme generosity of prominent Australian sports personalities, who always give us their time for free and create an afternoon of light entertainment, which is hosted by one of Australia's most sought after Master of Ceremonies, Leon Wiegard OAM.
During our Lunch there is no "hard sell"!
We merely ask those gathered to listen to our message of the good and practical work being done in Africa to improve health and education, and we hope you will agree that our work is bringing real benefits to people in desperate need of our help, and will be able to make just one donation each year.
(Note: We do not come back to you again and again for further donations during the year. Of course, if any Supporter feels he/she has the capacity to make more than one annual donation it's an added bonus!)
So, if you have a charitable heart, please contact us (by e-mail or traditional means) or come along to our next Lunch and listen to our message of bringing hope and joy to people less fortunate than ourselves.
